Bar hopping in Tokyo, Paris, London and South West France

That would be pretty expensive to do unless I get a sponsor or stick to the 300yen bars one can find throughout Tokyo. Unfortunately these places get so cramped and smoky, that unless you enjoy gas chambers and meat markets, you'll have to go somewhere else.

One of my favourite bar in Paris to go on a date or just sitting around with a small group of friends is the Boudubar. While most of the places around the Boudubar are packed with college students, the Boudubar stays relatively calm. Why is that? I would have to say it's because it's not a stand up bar where you can talk to and meet people outside of your group. It's best to go to the Boudubar if you want to chat with some friends in a cozy atmosphere while drinking and eating good food. That said, the reason there is often little exchange with people outside your group, has more to do with the way people are in Paris.

Going South West of France, in the epicenter of the European surfing world, many will have heard of the popular Dicks Sand Bar. The place is plastered with pictures of all the pretty girls who come to the place. It's certainly a way to keep attracting them, as it vindicates the fact they are hot if they are seen at Dick's. One of their branded t-shirts used to says "Chicks love Dick's". The place is run by a British surfer and attracts the foreign crowd, including all the pro surfers who are in the area during the summer and fall. It goes without saying the groupies like to come and see what's on the menu.

When I think of Tokyo, what comes to mind as one of my favorite, is none other than the popular Las Chikas in OmeteSando (They seem to have moved?). Everytime I go there I get to sit on a comfortable couch and watch a projection of the coolest surf video with Jack Johnson playing in the background. That alone makes it refreshing. Then there is the deco. The wood floor and decks give it a tropical feel. And of course the people: The staff is mostly Brazilian Japanese and so are some of the girls, who more often than not are starting their modeling career. The beauty of those places in Japan is that it attracts people of all age and walks of life. This is seldom the case in Europe where most places cater to a specific clientele.

Did I forget London? That's because I can't think of a place on top of my mind. Hopefully that will change after my next trip to London coming up soon at the end of May.

There wasn't much of bar hopping in this post I must admit; unless I change the title to bar hopping from Tokyo to Paris to Hossegor. Next post will be about personal stories gathered from various bars in the wild night jungle of Tokyo and other cities.
